Backend Engineer (Agent Runtime)

What you will do
- Maintain and evolve the core loop: work, note-taking, nightly consolidation, evaluation, coaching, version apply and rollback.
- Design the data model for memory and skill assets so every revision is traceable, reversible and auditable.
- Integrate and schedule multiple model endpoints (local vLLM, commercial models, OpenAI-compatible APIs) with timeouts, retries and cost control.
- Harden deployment scripts and runtime observability so the four services run reliably on an offline network.
What we look for
- Three or more years of Python backend experience, fluent with FastAPI or a similar async framework, with systems that carried real traffic.
- Solid PostgreSQL: migrations, indexes, transaction boundaries. Experience with Redis and object storage.
- Hands-on LLM application work: prompting, tool calling, context management, building and maintaining eval sets.
- You care about boundaries and rollback, and you write down what happens on failure before you build.
Nice to have
- Agent sandboxes, MCP tool integration or multi-tenant isolation.
- On-prem or air-gapped deployments for enterprise or public sector.
